Creativity meets the Curriculum

The students of Class 8 enthralled their peers with their Social Studies projects on the Biomes of the world. Through their 3D projects which they had carefully, thoughtfully and meticulously created in groups, they depicted the plants and animals which exist in various environments of the world.

It was captivating to watch them work effectively under the guidance of their Social Studies teacher as well as their Art Teacher. They learnt team work and the skill of cooperation. They were left with the realization that each group member has some unique quality to contribute to their effort.

The end result was the creative use of ordinary material to create an extraordinary, colourful world on Styrofoam. They researched extensively on their given Biome topic and explained it confidently and clearly to their peers.

Well done Class 8!

Speak your mind, even if your voice shakes – Maggie Smith.

Communication is the backbone of today`s society, which helps in forming connections and bringing about a positive change. Today BHS witnessed a silver-tongued orator Zahabiya Zoaib of Class XA, inspiring young pupils of class VI. Her motivational speech was based on a constructive inspirational video which showed how Sam Berns, a teenager suffering from the rare medical condition Progeria, is perfectly content with his life.

Children were touched by the way Zahabya convinced them that happiness is a choice that we ourselves make. She put forth a new meaning of happiness using Sam Berns` philosophy of a happy life. What made the session more productive was the perpetual interest of the young learners. They appreciated Zahabiya by applauding and thanked her vigorously for showing them the effectiveness of gratitude and happiness. Cheers for the future motivational speaker!!

What is education but identifying and polishing skills of students and giving them a platform to shine.

Badrian

The Newsletter

The academic year 2016-17 witnessed such remarkable achievements in Badri High School that what began with an urge to record the events for the world and for posterity inevitably manifested into the first BADRIAN to be published.

These achievements were set into motion on 8th September 2015 with the barakat of Aqa Maula TUS’s Qadam Mubarak. It may have lasted a mere minutes but the force of its barakat is being felt and seen today and will continue to be felt and seen for generations to come.

InshaAllah, the BADRIAN will continue to record as Badri High School continues to break records!

Stories and Role-Play in Juniors

Stories are an important part of the Pre-Primary classroom as children love stories. Stories create magic and a sense of wonder at the world. They become a stepping stone for the children to understand difficult concepts.

The Juniors had done two stories throughout the week:

On Friday, they came dressed in Reds and Blues and a variety of lovely hats. It was a fine day for the two teams ‘Reds’ and ‘Blues’ to play football. Later, in class they talked about their hats. What stories they had to tell!

It was a wonderful opportunity for these little ones to witness the glory of this renowned institute where, someday, some of them will get the sharaf of studying, and becoming a part of it

Project Germination in Montessori

Fueled

Fueled
by a million
man-made
wings of fire-
the rocket tore a tunnel
through the sky-
and everybody cheered.

Fueled
only by a thought from God-
the seedling
urged its way
through thicknesses of black-
and as it pierced
the heavy ceiling of the soil-
and lauched itself
up into outer space –
no
one
even
clapped.

–Marcie Hans

But the Montessori children celebrated this miraculous event every step of the way from the tiniest root to the longest shoot. The wonder in their eyes made us all take a step back and delight in the beauty of Allah’s Creation.

A guest shares her thoughts

Fatema Abdul Qadir Shakir from Singapore, whose family deals with LEGO Education in Singapore, was invited to BHS to observe the Robotics class. These are her comments which she generously shared with us after her visit:

” Recently I got a chance to go to Badri High School. Last I think I had visited 4 to 5 years back. I was shocked to see the change in these years.

When I passed by some students they were fluently talking in English about some book they had read. Some prefects in their maroon sashes stood discussing their positions to stand and monitor the other students as it was recess time.

It was a drastic change for me as I had never expected such behavior. The students, the school environment …all has progressed a lot. The personality of the students and their confidence is just next level.

I also got a chance to sit with class 7 in a Robotics class which is held every Thursday, where the students were participating and interacting animatedly in the class with the trainer and the enjoyment they were experiencing while learning was clear. It was very refreshing to see such bright students.

The school itself also has changed in infrastructure. These kids have a proper environment to study and learn.

Hats off to the school committee. They have come a long way and have worked hard which we can clearly see. Badri School is securing and building a bright future for these students.”

PTM: A Time to Connect

It was a sunny Saturday and ideal for a rendezvous with parents.

BHS held its first Parent Teacher meeting of the academic year on the 28th of October 2017. PTMs are a time for parents and teachers to connect and regroup regarding the pupil’s progress.

The teachers have carefully analysed the students in the last few months since the beginning of the academic year and have been able to record their progress according to their monthly test, strengths and weaknesses.

The parents were very open minded about the feedback shared by the teachers. The teachers also gained an insight into the students personalities and backgrounds by speaking with the parents.

This was a much desired step in the right direction for the school and parents to work hand in hand for the betterment and guidance of the pupils.

Despite the frenzy of test week, the girls were excited to be chosen for the final team. The teams left for the City School PAF Chapter and the Under 17 Girls Team played the opening match with CJS. A match comprised of three rounds and each round was of 15 points. BHS lost this match 1-2. The girls used this opportunity to warm up and tried to face their rivals with confidence.

The second match was played between BHS and MSB and BHS lost 0-2. The girls were dejected but learnt the life-long skill of resilience and how important it is to get up after a defeat. The third match of the Under 17 team was with Happy Palace Grammar School which we lost 1-2.

The younger girls of class 6, 7 and 8 who made up the Under 14 team fought fiercely in their match against Aga Khan High School (Garden Campus). It was a nail biting match which was finally won by Happy Palace 1-2.

The students returned exhausted by 1:30 pm to the school premises and then gave their monthly tests. They got valuable exposure to a major interschool tournament which contributed to building confidence as well as teaching them teamwork and sportsmanship. They proved that they were able to juggle multiple tasks and how physical activity is important for girls and leads to healthier bodies and sharper minds.

Special kudos to the sports teachers at BHS, Sir Tajammul and Sir Zeeshan, who worked hard to train and motivate the teams.
