The First Day of Playgroup

Imagine yourself in a strange place, surrounded by strange people who speak a language other than your own.

Does it sound like something out of a story book?

Wrong.

Now add to this the fact that your loved ones take you by the hand and leave you there.

How would you feel?

This is more or less what each of our tiny tots felt on the first day of school. They expressed their fear and frustration of their unknown surroundings the way they knew best: crying.

Our teachers were prepared for all eventualities. They had name badges ready at the gate and as soon as a child came in, they pinned it to his pocket. Most children had to be carried to the class as they struggled to run back to their parents. Other teachers pitched in to help with the struggling tots.

In the classroom, the teachers got down to the task with incredible calm and patience. Their soothing voice and calm demeanor gradually pacified the young ones until most of them were willing to settle down and play with the toys or participate in singing rhymes. Some of them though, kept crying at intervals as the memory of their surroundings resurfaced.

Soon, the hour was up and the teachers went around sorting bags, caps, scarves and water-bottles, checking for labels and helping children wear their backpacks.

They took the children to the gates and as each child spotted his parent(s) his face broke into a smile of recognition and relief as he ran towards outstretched arms.

A week has gone by and the children have now begun to recognize the school environment, the teachers and the other children. This sense of familiarity and routine has gradually increased their level of comfort. Most of them are now coming with a smile and have begun to enjoy time spent in school. Some of them have also started coming by the school van.

But as much as they enjoy school, at the end of the day, the little ones all look forward to going home to be greeted with a smile and a hug by the most beloved people in their lives.

Orientation 2018-19-Over a Cup of Tea

There is nothing like a cup of freshly brewed tea and biting into a biscuit early in the morning to put one in the right frame of mind. Ken Cohen has rightly said, “A cup of tea is a cup of peace!”

Early Saturday morning on 4th August 2018 the scent of tea and the concerned voices of teachers and parents could be heard through the three floors at Badri High School as they came together to orient themselves for yet another thrilling and prosperous year.

An orientation is important as a right beginning is vital to getting the entire year off to a remarkable start. For this Academic Year 2018-19 the parents were divided into two groups to come in at two time slots and invited into their children’s classrooms to listen to the plans and policies for the new year ahead. The orientation was planned a week after school started as we wished to give the parents and students a chance to experience the working of the school’s systems.

The class teachers addressed the parents and even answered individual queries and took in suggestions and concerns. It was an opportunity for the parent and teacher to meet one-on-one and discuss the most pertinent issue before them—that of their children’s personal and academic progress.

Teachers had also planned interactive sessions in each class with a specific objective for each activity. Play Group teachers made a yarn web & parents got a chance to talk about their children. It helped emphasize the importance of being connected as well. Reception’s activity emphasized how each child perceives differently’ the Juniors class teachers wanted to drive home the importance of letting children draw themselves. Seniors teachers had 2 activities on the importance of language & consistency in learning.

At BHS we believe strongly in strengthening the Parent-Tecaher-Student triangle and continue to endeavor to communicate effectively and regularly with parents via forums like Ilmversity.

The morning was pleasantly spent; productively and positively utilized to provide a road map for the entire year. Arthur Wing Pinero has rightly said, “Where there is tea, there is hope!”

Academic Year 2018-19 begins with Ashara Ohbat Majlis

The cries of Ya Husain AS filled the courtyard  of Badri High School as 31st July marked the date of the inception of the Academic Year 2018-19. And what a beginning it proved to be.  The day was reflection of the fact that it is the sorrow of Imam Husain AS which is the essence of all knowledge.
Usually the year begins with Darees of Syedna Hatim RA,  Syedna Taher Saifuddin RA and Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA.  This year Janab Naeem Bhaisaheb guided the team at BHS to begin with year with Noha and Aweel Majlis as the lives of these Duaat Mutleqeen RA and Mawali Kiraam have revolved around the sorrow and zikr of Imam Husain AS and Ahle Bait AS.
Early Tuesday morning, the students performed purjosh Matam and rendered the heart wrenching Shahadat of Imam Husain AS in Arabic. The vision for the future was cleansed and watered for prosperity by the tears of the students. With Matam these young hearts were purified and opened their doors to let in the light of knowledge.
One of the highlights of the event was appreciating the first Hafizul Quran of the academic year,  Zainab Shk Fakhruddin of class 7. She was awarded a Karbala Ziyarat ticket on behalf of the school.
The Ohbat Majlis was followed by a prize distribution ceremony acknowledging the high achievers of the previous Academic Year 2017-18.
We offer gratitude to Janab Naeem Bhaisaheb who has always made the progress of Badri High School his priority. Despite arriving in Karachi late Monday night Syedi Saheb arrived with his usual punctual precision and addressed the gathering of students to inspire them and motivate the BHS team.
We are sure that with the tasbeeh of Ya Husain AS our entire year is geared towards prosperity and unparalleled progress. With a record number of new admissions this year,  2018-19 will Inshallah be a memorable year with a memorable start!
