“Masjid is NOT a gift shop.”

nspired by Naqiyah Behensaheba’s Post on “Masjid is NOT a gift shop.”

The holy month of Ramadan is approaching soon. It teaches us piety, discipline, self-control, empathy, and a deeper connection with the divine. Ramadan is a time for reflection, this time of the year we give sillat (an act of gifting something to your closed ones) to each other.

@naqiyah_burhanuddin behensaheba shared an activity which teaches our young ones that sillat should be pocket friendly, healthy and meaningful because “masjid is not a gift shop”

Students of Badri High School did this English activity in grade one and came up with amazing ideas.

Chocolate rock!

Our easy rock investigation of making edible rocks is a great introduction to different types of rocks.
We had varieties of chocolate, nuts chocolate, peanut butter, caramel, coconut, wafer, biscuit, and a lot more. These chocolate rocks are of different colors and have different bits in them. Students have to break the chocolate to observe bits as if they were rocks!
When we were done, the children all drew illustrations of the chocolate rock to demonstrate their understanding.

Jump Start the Day with a Healthy Breakfast

For years, nutrition experts have said that a healthy breakfast is the key to start the day. Not only do we think and perform better in the day but also supports our well-being in many other ways.

To encourage eating a healthy breakfast and consolidating proper eating manners in the students, an activity was conducted in the Primary section on Friday 4th October 2019 in which students brought homemade, healthy food which included honey, kalonji, dates, Mohabbat ni Roti, omelet, butter, jam, milk and fruits.

Breakfast was thoroughly enjoyed in the form of a thaal and the students were accompanied by the principal Janab Shk. Hashim bhai, Head Moallim, Shk. Murtaza bhai and moalimeens and moalimaas. The meal started with washing hands, serving thaal and ended by applying Attar by the students.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the activity and learnt all the aspects of eating habits and a healthy food which a momin should follow in their daily life. Parents, whose children have an aversion from eating early in the morning, expressed their gratitude at their students being motivated to partake this most important meal of the day.

Music Classes for Pre-Primary and Primary Students

“Ah, music,” he said, wiping his eyes. “A magic beyond all we do here!”
―
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

With the advent of the new year, music classes have been incorporated into the Pre-primary and Primary students’ weekly schedule. A specialized music teacher will come twice a week and students will be exposed to the different tunes and melodies with the help of the organ according to their grade level.

Our children are surrounded by music in their daily lives beginning from the melodious sound of Azaan as the day begins.  The spirituality of Tilawat and Qasida infuses their minds and souls with the spiritual strength for learning. The inspiring notes and lyrics of the national anthem serve to foster patriotism in them. Throughout the day, they listen to and sing poems, clap and tap to a beat and observe and listen to sounds in their surroundings.

It has been proven that exposure to music from early childhood onward helps children to speak clearly, develop a larger vocabulary and strengthen social and emotional skills.  The psychologist Howard Gardner stressed the importance of music intelligence as music has the ability to strengthen the connection between the body and brain to work together as a team.

BHS Celebrates World Food Day 2018

BHS Celebrates World Food Day 2018 | By Sakina Amir Godhrawala (Student of Class 9)

In the year 1979, an organization was formed because of the alarming case of people suffering from hunger and malnutrition. Every year we celebrate this sublime day to eradicate hunger, spread awareness about food and help people consume proper diet.

Badri High School (BHS) believes in creating awareness about the world we live in, in line with the vision of Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS who guides us to waste not a single grain of food and wishes for each believer to eat well.

Following this line of action on 16th of October 2018, students of BHS filled thaalis, stuck stickers creating awareness about saving food and distributed Faize Mawaid Burhani all around Al Mohalatul Burhaniyah.  A poster making contest as well as a walkathon around the vicinity helped engage the heads, hands and hearts of the children  towards this cause.

The school day was filled with enactments on World Food Day and Food Security as well as informative literature and news stories were shared in class.

This day was commemorated to create food awareness, about its hygiene and warn people against consuming improper diet.

On one hand there is hunger, while on the other due to improper diet or eating of excess of junk food nearly 40% of the world’s population is obese and 25% is overweight. Let us all play a role in saving food, eating the right diet and realizing the dream of a Zero Hunger World.
