Science Fair 2020-Bringing the Four Elements Together in the Light of Al-Quran

Badri High School was pleased to open its doors to welcome a massive crowd of 1600 inquisitive Science enthusiasts on 17th January 2020 for their eye opening Science Fair based on the theme of the Four Elements-Fire, Air, Water and Earth in the light of the miracles of Al-Quran’. Inaugurated by Janab Naeem Bhaisab the fair greeted over 1600 visitors in a short span of 4 hours that included high profile dignitaries such as Dr.Shakeel Farooqi; the Head of Genetics Department at the University of Karachi who could not but be mesmerized by the productive creativity of the fair.

Challenging their own limits, BHS prides on the grand success of Science Fair 2020 as it involved all three sections of the school; Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary.

Engaging their spectators in admiration, young researchers of pre-primary section created spectrum of formalized hands on knowledge on various topics. From meteorologists to scientists, from recyclers to artists, from mechanical engineers to paleontologists, all through their effective communication skills in English won hearts of hundreds of avid learners.

The gist of the feedback received from onlookers was, ‘No matter how many questions of inquiry we post, these little champs flashed all answers confidently with complete scientific approach.’

The life-size creation of natural habitats for land and marine animals to explicitly picturesque the ecosystem was an impossible task made only possible by the absolute determination and relentless hard work of students of the primary section. The presence of real animals did not only seize to captivate adults’ attention but also anticipated young visitors who with their parents celebrated their morning with a fresh sight of Peacocks, Turkeys, Turtles, Cobras etc. in the Primary Fair display at the backyard.

‘We were totally awe-struck by the theme and display that created such a natural ambiance at the fair that it was hard for us to detach ourselves at the time of leave’, quoted throng of spectators while leaving the primary section at the fair.

In an effort to work on the four elements that the world is comprised of, the secondary section of BHS work unremittingly hard for weeks on the theme of Air, Water, Earth and Fire.

Four sections tented the significance of each element. With more than 34 projects on exhibit, this troop of young scientists, doctors, engineers, gamers, researchers, technologists, inventers and discoverers celebrated the journey of each element based on the scientific approach and aptitude.

Trotting forward was a fine display of Robotics, STEM, Lego and Science Kits section, where young, adults and grandparents thoroughly relished experiencing technology. ‘The moment of interaction with the full-sized robot will be cherished forever’, voiced audiences who cherished giving verbal commands to the robots.

Truly, the voyage of Science Fair 2020 was ravishing in terms of learning scientific aptitude, team building skills, social skills, developing creative instincts and polishing effective English communication skills, and all under the light of Al-Quran.

Career Counselling of class X by STSMF

Not gold but only men can make
A nation great and strong;
Men who for truth and honor’s sake
Stand fast and suffer long.

Brave men who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly…
They build a nation’s pillars deep
And lift them to the sky.

Years back when Ralph Waldo Emerson was writing these lines, he surely had the youth on his mind. Many wise people stress on the significance of the right education and upbringing of youth for the progress and prosperity of any state.

Such a tender age, but so much emphasis is laid on the right education of these young creative minds that hold in their hands powers even unknown to them.

This Saturday, 1 st of February 2020, a group of 20 young and passionate professionals and students gathered at Badri High School with the purpose of providing guidance in choosing a career to the current batch of Class X, and their parents, at BHS. These professionals have themselves studied with financial assistance from Syedna Tahir Saifuddin Memorial Foundation, an organization which was established with the blessings and benedictions of Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin R.A, in March 1966, with a purpose of providing educational and medical relief to mumineen.

The career counseling session began with an introduction of STSMF, its objectives and procedures. Five speakers belonging to the major fields of Medical, Engineering, Business Education, Arts and architecture and Computer Science shared how and why they chose these fields. These speakers clearly shared the scope of every field along with the road map  one has to take if they wish to choose any of these as their potential career choice. The added advantage was the information about the degrees in every field, the institutions offering them and the criteria for admission.

Students and their parents were completely engrossed in the sessions. One could easily see spark in the eyes of Hatim Huzaifa, a student of Class X, when Computer Science was being discussed, while, during the presentation of the Engineering field, Asma, yet another student, was visibly interested.

As soon as the speaking session ended, a one-on-one counseling round began with students and their parents. 20 professionals from STSMF sat in different rooms. Students went to the room where the counselor from their
required field sat ready to answer any query they might have in mind. From admission criteria to scope of the field, from the course outline to project and field work, every question and ambiguity was cleared by the counselors.

Altogether, five rooms with three to four field related professionals in one room were set up. For instance, the room for medical fields had a MBBS, a physiotherapist and a pharmacist guiding the students who sought advice, while the engineering room had a civil engineer, a mechatronics engineer, an electrical engineer and a polymer engineer to attend to aspiring engineers.

Parents were equally motivated to talk to the counselors as they waited outside the rooms for the field of interest of their children.

This session proved to be a life changing experience for students and parents both as it revealed the hidden passion of students and equipped them with enough knowledge about the scope and demand of every field, so that now, when they step out of school, they know exactly what road to take and where to go.

Badrians Bring Home the Schoolathon Trophy

The announcement, ‘And the Schoolathon trophy for boys goes to Badri High School!’ is still ringing in my ears. What a moment it was! What a feeling! Every heart associated with Badri High School swelled with pride at this amazing victory. Our boys had done it again, right on the heels of a major victory at the Dodge ball Asian Games in Hong Kong.

Schoolathon was an initiative taken by Al-Nad-il-Burhani and Shabab-e-Eid-i-Zahabi to bring together the seven Imani schools of Karachi by providing them a platform for learning, developing and exercising important skills through games and sports. What better way to learn to be a team player than through cricket? What better way to learn to exercise hand-eye coordination along with logical and spatial skills than through archery? What better way to build stamina than through running? What better way to learn to accept loss graciously and victory with empathy than through games and sports? Our students proved they are fighters and more than ready to learn the lessons that these games have taught them.

Seven schools participated in the Schoolathon:

  1. Badri High School
  2. Hakimi School
  3. Husamiyah School
  4. MSB Haidery
  5. MSB Shabbirabad
  6. Saifiyah Girls
  7. Saifiyah Boys

Forty Five boys and fifty girls from BHS participated in seven events altogether:

  1. Athletics
  2. Throwball
  3. Futsal
  4. Volleyball
  5. Cricket
  6. Archery
  7. Table tennis

We won 11 shields, 38 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 5 bronze medals altogether. Hussain Murtaza Gohar was declared the best player of the tournament.

The Badri Band played a vital part in creating an atmosphere at the event. Their music was uplifting and motivating and encouraged the players to give their best. The Clapping Display and the Ribbon Flow Display by our students at the closing ceremony was unique and striking.

We aim to gain the Khushi Mubarak of Aqa Maula TUS by following His Farmaan Mubarak for taking steps to being physically and mentally fit and healthy. Our sports teachers, Ms. Mehwish and Sir Tajammul have worked tirelessly behind the scenes and their efforts have taken us to victory.

Three cheers for all our heroes! Like they chanted at the games-MashaAllah, mashaAllah!
